Syringes, needle hubs and injection systems are manufactured in extremely high unit numbers as precision injection-moulded parts. PP for barrels and plunger rods and transparent plastics shape the material basis – and the polymer price is a central cost driver.

Companies that rely on pricenxt

With pricenxt Analytics, teams capture price developments faster, compare price series, and build up their own structured market monitoring.
In many conventional single-use syringes, PP accounts for a large share of the plastic; even small price movements then have a noticeable effect on unit costs. Prefilled syringes, pens, and auto-injectors also contain engineering plastics, elastomers and, in part, metal.
Extreme unit numbers: across billions of parts produced, even small price differences add up to considerable sums.
PP as the lead material in many single-use syringes: in conventional single-use syringes, the price of the PP grades used determines a large part of the manufacturing costs.
Tight tolerances in injection moulding: approved material grades are fixed – price transparency secures the calculation for ongoing production.

From procurement to management: pricenxt supports key decisions along the entire value chain.
Tracks the price development of the PP grades and transparent plastics used, positions the company’s own price level and prepares supplier negotiations on a sound basis.
Keeps the material cost base of ongoing injection moulding production in view and recognises at an early stage how price movements affect unit costs.
Anchors current price data in quotations and budgets, identifies margin risks at an early stage and creates a dependable basis for calculation.

For syringes and injection systems, PP homopolymers, and copolymers for barrels, plunger rods and connectors are the key materials. In transparent syringes, and in prefilled ones in particular, COC and COP may be used; PC is added for transparent components, HDPE for individual injection-moulded parts, and POM for mechanical functional parts.
Use our Plastixx and A-Plastixx indices free of charge, with no time limit. Track price developments for standard and engineering plastics, as well as across selected application markets.
