Everything you need to know about indices in pricenxt

Indices condense price and cost developments into clear reference values. This lets you spot market movements faster and compare developments over longer periods.

Plastixx is the polymer price index from KI – Kunststoff Information. Since June 2005 it has provided a representative picture of the price development of key plastics in Western Europe.

It is calculated monthly on the basis of the market prices determined by KI. Plastixx covers key thermoplastics. Plastixx ST shows the development of standard thermoplastics. Plastixx TT shows the development of engineering thermoplastics.

The baseline for Plastixx, Plastixx ST and Plastixx TT is January 2002, set at 1,000 points.

Plastixx is based, among others, on the price developments of LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, PVC, PS, PET as well as ABS, PA, PC, PMMA, POM, and PBT.

The average Western European market prices are weighted by Western European consumption volumes. This weighting is updated annually.

Plastixx Composites shows the price development of key materials used in glass-fibre-reinforced plastics. These include ortho resins, glass-fibre chopped strand mats, and direct rovings.

It has been calculated since January 2010 on a basis of 1,000 points.

Plastixx Application tracks the price development of plastics for application-based market segments, weighted by consumption volumes across six groups.

A-Plastixx E&E, A-Plastixx PackFlex, A-Plastixx PackRigid, A-Plastixx AutoInterior, A-Plastixx AutoNonInterior, and A-Plastixx B+C.

The A-Plastixx indices are consistently integrated into the Plastixx framework of KI – Kunststoff Information. This lets you cleanly compare application markets, individual polymer types, and further price history with one another.

The Plastixx Materials, Composites and application indices follow the Paasche index principle. Each index represents a group of plastics that is particularly important for the respective market segment.

Average Western European market prices feed into the monthly calculation. The weighting is based on Western European consumption volumes and is updated annually.

The baseline for the Plastixx indices is January 2002, set at 1,000 points.

Indices place individual price movements in the context of the overall market. You compare cost developments, assess your own price level and prepare price negotiations on a data-driven basis.

No. Indices provide the higher-level orientation. For specific purchasing decisions, individual price series, regions, transaction types, and materials remain important.
